OUR COFFEES
As you may know, coffee beans grow best in areas of the world outside of the United States, and often in third world countries where farming practices, labor laws, and other conditions can be poorly regulated. We are incredibly selective about the farms that we work with to ensure that the practices are not only ethical, but will result in the best tasting coffees.
Carefully curated for java lovers from all walks of life, Smart Owl Coffee beans are USDA organic, ethically-sourced, roasted in small batches, and available is several roast varieties, caffeine levels, and package sizes.
What exactly does USDA certification mean?
USDA Organic means that the food has been produced through approved methods that integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used, making it NON-GMO
Therefore, no synthetic fertilizers or chemicals are used in the growing or production, which means cleaner beans, air, land, water and ultimately a cleaner planet for all of us. It also means safer conditions for the farmers, and ultimately, a better and cleaner cup of coffee for you, the consumer.
What exactly is "ethically sourced"?
Direct Trade means that our roaster works directly with the farmers to establish a mutually beneficial relationship with regards to wages and pricing, while also giving us more control over aspects ranging from the quality of the coffee, to social issues, or environmental concerns. Cutting out the "middleman" improves both traceability and transparency.
Fair Trade means that the coffee meets rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards ensuring safe working conditions, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods, and community development.
What exactly is "Small Batch"coffee?
Small batch coffee means that our coffee is micro roasted in small batches through a highly-controlled process, instead of roasting the beans in bulk.
Micro-roasted coffee is considered by many to be the best tasting type of coffee available on the retail market. The processes used to create this coffee variety are calculated to bring out the best of the coffee beans used in this technique. This type of coffee has a richness of flavor unmatched by many traditional, store brought brands.
OUR SUPPLEMENTS
Smart Owl Coffee sources the raw materials for our products from many countries including the USA, Canada, China, Korea, Japan, India and Germany. We only source from the top worldwide manufacturers that are cGMP certified as well as registered and regularly inspected by the FDA.
All of our ingredients meet the GRAS guidelines set by the FDA, which deems them as safe for human consumption. Each ingredient is third party lab tested for purity and consistency by an ISO certified laboratory.

What does cGMP mean?
cGMP certification means that our supplement providers use current good manufacturing practices as recognized by the FDA. The regulations make sure that a product is safe for use, and that it has the ingredients and strength it claims to have.
What does GRAS mean?
GRAS designation means that the ingredients that we use have been adequately shown by qualified experts to be safe for consumption under the conditions of its intended use, and meet the guidelines set by the FDA.
What does third party tested mean?
Third party tested means that after passing through US Customs and FDA Inspection, every batch of raw materials that we use enters an ISO:17025 Certified Laboratory where they perform a multitude of tests that include:
• FTIR purity test
• Microbiology contamination test
• ICP-MS heavy metal test (Hg, As, Pb, Cd)
• Assay(if applicable)
What does ISO accreditation mean?
ISO accreditation means that the labs that we rely on to perform our third party testing are ISO 17025 certified. To achieve ISO 17025 accreditation, the laboratory's quality management system and technical competence is evaluated thoroughly by a third-party.
Audits are conducted on a regular basis to maintain accreditation. ISO 17025 accreditation can only be granted by an authorized accreditation body. Accreditation means that the laboratory has met the Management Requirements and Technical Requirements of ISO17025 and is deemed technically competent to produce calibration and testing results.
